Don Giovannia

JACKET NOTES:  A marvellously witty drama of theatricals in the Umbrian countryside. In which life begins to imitate art in unexpected ways...

Time are changing. Joanna Volpi knows that her handsome Italian husband is having yet another affair, but now she has had enough of here married life the way it is, and has a die of her own to cast.

It would have been cruelly tactless to cast her as the wronged Elvira in the local summer production of Don Giovanni, so her fellow English countryman, Lord Henry Thirsk, has asked Joanna to create the sets, albeit against his better judgement. Henry's young wife Gaia thinks a night of theatricals and Mozart in the Umbrian hills is a little passé, not to mention just an excuse of her husband's for not getting on with his next novel. But then she herself is cast as Elvira; and Henry's directorial interest in the set design is soon escalating as he liaises with the appealing and currently footloose set designer.
