MICHAEL GILBERT was born in 1912 and educated at Blundell's School and London University. He served in North Africa and Italy during World War II, after which he joined a firm of solicitors. His first novel 'Close Quarters' was published in 1947; since then he has written many novels, short stories, plays and radio and TV scripts. He is a founding member of the Crime Writers' Association.
