In a dense, multi-layered plot reminiscent of All The President s Men, Verås uncovers evidence of a financial fraud involving Norway s political and financial elite evidence that points to his own brother. He makes the fatal decision to pursue the story, which leads to his brother s suicide. Verås then turns his attention to the anonymous tip that sparked the mystery, only to discover that the source was his brother himself. Bewildered and grief-stricken, Verås presses on but the closer he gets to the truth, the more dangerous it becomes for him and his family.

Episode Descriptions

Episode 1 - The Sacrifice

Journalist Peter Verås receives a tip from an anonymous source about a scandal in the financial world. The crushing evidence incriminates his own brother, a senior director in one of Norway's leading finance companies. In spite of the family connection, Peter decides to let the newspaper go ahead and publish the story, and the disclosure has huge consequences for his brother. Subsequently, economic crime investigator Vibeke reveals some surprising information to Peter, and the hunt for the criminals begins...

Episode 2 - The Awakening

After five years of investigation, journalist Peter Verås finds the first sign that his brother was pushed to commit suicide. He and Eva, his sister-in-law, close in on a top financier who knew his brother's secret. The man makes a mysterious disclosure before he too commits suicide. While promising to keep his family out of trouble, Peter continues to search for the truth, but his colleagues and the police no longer believe his explanation about what happened to his brother. The closer Peter gets to what really happened, the more deeply hidden the truth becomes.

Episode 3 - The Descent

Peter has found the connection between the suicides of his brother and Åge Haugen. Both were in possession of paintings referring to the offering of a child sacrifice in the Bible. Both were afraid something awful would happen to their own children, and both committed suicide on the same date - 22 October. Peter is convinced someone pushed them to suicide and that the paintings were a scream for help. At the same time, he tries to find out how financier Tom Lied rose so quickly to become one of Norway's wealthiest men.
